So it's that time of the year again. That time when we come out and fully support Black owned restaurants in the Memphis, TN area (and a few other areas added this year).

Black restaurant week is defined by "an opportunity for Black-Owned restaurants to offer dining deals to bring in new customers and raise awareness. It allows the country to support minority-owned eateries.

We believe supporting Black restaurants play a crucial role in achieving socio-economic upliftment, and the sustainable implementation of these beliefs will strengthen our communities and open opportunities for future generations."

With that said I am totally here for it. I love food and I am up for supporting a great cause. My husband and I participated in this event in 2016 and even though we were in for the support, we ran into a few challenges, so this year we hope to do things a bit different.

Here are a few tips to help navigate your way through this amazing week:

1. Get your coin right - This will not be cheap, so if you are committed to supporting then be committed to support with your money.

2. Avoid the rush hour crew - Most people will be headed there during peak times; that is evening and weekend. Try your best to go, of course during the week, but lunch times. Also, try and avoid the first days and the last days. You have the whole week to work your way through different restaurants. Another suggestion would be to place take out orders instead of dine in.

3. Don't be picky with your food - Be open minded about the food offering and selections that will be available. The offering may be limited with set menu's, but there is always something for everyone.

4. Be Polite - This is one of the most profitable weeks for many of the restaurants participating, but it will also be the most stressful due to the traffic. Please bear this in mind and that they are doing their best to serve you.

5. Do remember to take pictures - I generally love pictures. It's a great way to capture memories and of course be social. Be sure to use the hashtag #MBRW17

Hope this gives you a little bit of help navigating Black restaurant Week in Memphis. Like their facebook page to get updates and hope you have a great week out there.
